6th Grade Thoughts

I asked my new middle schooler to share some of his first impressions of middle school…

Hi, I am Jack and I am a new student in sixth grade in middle school. It's pretty awesome because I have friends from two other elementary schools that I get to see every day now. There are six elementary schools and two middle schools in my school district.

As a sixth grader you have many challenges and many more expectations. The first day I got to school I was nervous because I didn't remember where all my classes were and you only have 5 minutes to get to each class so I run to some.

The teachers are harder than elementary school and expect much more from their students. In the first semester, I have gotten to know my teachers better and I have made many new friends.

Some things I do like about middle school are: 1 - the cafeteria food is better, 2 - I have more independence, 3 - new friends Some things I do not like are: 1 - harder tests, 2 - teacher expectations are higher, 3 - the school day is longer than elementary school.

My favorite subjects are social studies, language arts, and math. Math is hard but luckily I understand how to do most of it.

I am excited for the break in December because that means I have finished 50% of 6th grade. I have lots of friends in 7th and 8th too which makes it fun to see them all in the halls in between classes. I am excited for the next two years of middle school because I now feel like a true middle schooler.
