Backyard Volleyball
School’s almost out and it’s time for the kids to be playing outside all day. We love playing family volleyball when friends come over, and just got a great new net set up!
This summer we decided to set up and install a higher quality net in the backyard for volleyball, badminton, and other netted sports. After doing some research and taking the plunge, I really like the kit that we got. Before we started shopping, we knew we wanted one that would keep the net tight (with lots of tension), and be easy to adjust the height.
We decided to buy the Gared Mongoose LT Volleyball System from Amazon (it was just over $100). Like we wanted, this keeps incredible tension on the net and is easy to change heights. It also has a few other features that have come in handy!
The first is that it doesn’t have any ropes or guy wires keeping the poles in place – instead, a spike with a post is hammered into the ground making a short post. The pole slides over the post, and voila, no wires needed. We leave the net up, and it doesn’t get in the way of mowing the lawn.
The other thing our family really likes is that the net came with a bright yellow boundary rope. This rope is shaped in a rectangle like a volleyball court, and each corner has a little pin that you can just push into the ground to hold it in place. Even though it is out of the way, the rope boundary is easily visible in the grass and resolves all the “was that shot in or out” debates.
I’m looking forward to hours of fun with this net setup.
