Beating the Heat in Austin

July 24, 2017 | by Rajal | 1 Minute Read

Is it really only July 23rd? Is there still another month before school starts? I know I’m not the only one thinking this. The sun is still beating down and I need to find ways to keep the kids busy for another 4 weeks. Yikes!!!

I’ve come up with a few ideas if you’re sick of going to the same old places. Playdates are always great, but sometimes you just want to get out of the house. For example, there are lots of pools around town if you’re sick of your neighborhood pool. Here are some more fun ideas:

Movies: There are a bunch of kid movies out right now: Cars 3, Despicable Me 3, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain Underpants, Transformers Alamo Drafthouse does a kids camp at most of their locations. They show G or PG movies at a discounted rate. Many theaters in Austin have been renovated and have comfy, reclining seats now. Barton Creek, Westgate, Hill Country and Southpark Meadows are great places to see movies!

Museums:

  • Blanton Museum
  • Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum
  • LBJ Library at the University of Texas

Pools:

  • Barton Springs Pool
  • Deep Eddy Pool
  • Blue Hole Park in Wimberley

Bowling:

  • Westgate Lanes
  • Dart Bowl (They also have awesome enchiladas!)

Water Parks:

  • Schlitterbahn
  • Typhoon Texas - Pfluggerville
  • Volante Beach

Hotels nearby with water parks:

  • JW in San Antonio
  • Hyatt Lost Pines
  • Westin La Canterra

And why should kids have all the fun this summer? These hotels in Austin have pools with plenty of cocktails to go around! Many of them will let you buy a day pass to use their pool.

  • W Hotel
  • JW Hotel
  • Hotel Van Zandt
  • Hotel Saint Cecilia
  • South Congress Hotel

Hopefully these ideas will keep you going for the next month or so. Stay cool!
