Day Trip to the Austin Zoo

November 19, 2018 | by Jackie | 1 Minute Read

When the weather cools down a bit we love to take the kids to the Austin Zoo. It’s located just a few miles from downtown Austin and provides hours of fun for the whole family. The Zoo is a rescue Zoo and we feel great about supporting its efforts. It’s mission “to assist animals in need through rescue, rehabilitation and education.” It apparently started as a goat ranch and grew to into the Zoo it is today, replete with all kinds of exotic animals in 2000.

As you walk around the Zoo, there are free roaming chickens and beautiful peacocks that display their plumage regularly. Our kids love the peacocks. You can also buy feed to feed the goats, pigs, deer and llama. It’s super entertaining watching the kids feed the animals and a great photo op!

Some highlights include the feeding of the bears, the lions and my personal favorite, the Bengal Tiger. After you’ve walked around the grounds for a while and gotten some exercise, you can take a fun and relaxing train ride around the outskirts of the Zoo.

It’s a fun day for kids and parents alike and a great cause. Check it out.
