Elementary to Middle School Transition

April 16, 2018 | by Melissa | 1 Minute Read

From a 5th grader's perspective:

Okay, I have mixed feelings: on one hand, I want to get out of the school that I've been going to for 6 years, and on the other hand, I want to go back to kindergarten just to prevent myself from having to go to middle school and then to high school - yikes!

My friends will ask me "Hey, are you excited for middle school?" and I will always answer "I have no idea yet!" I just can't decide if I am ready for it or not.

The counselors from our middle school came to talk to all 5th graders at my school about what classes we want to take and how fun it will be — that for some reason made me even more nervous! The thought of all of a sudden leaving the only school that I have ever known is just scary!

In 5th grade, you have to walk in lines wherever you go. I am definitely excited about not having to walk in straight lines in middle school. We also have hour-and-a half classes, but in middle school we will have 55 minute classes. The downside is that we will have more classes because the periods are shorter!

I heard the cafeteria food is really good in middle school which will be nice because elementary school food is terrible.

I guess I will find out how I really feel about middle school in the fall and for now, I will enjoy the last few months of elementary school. Thanks for reading!
