Family Pet

December 04, 2017 | by Melissa | 1 Minute Read

As parents of children with animal allergies, my husband and I were hesitant to get a pet. But after years of begging and pleading from the kids, we finally relented and started our research with the particular breeds of dogs that the children could tolerate - the primary being a hypo-allergenic breed.

With as much as we'd like to have taken the children to a local animal shelter, which we still highly recommend to anyone looking for a family pet (with no animal allergies), we settled on a breeder in Spring Branch, Texas, who helped us surprise our 3 kids two years ago with the best holiday gift they have ever received: MAX.

Now three years old, Max is a Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel + Poodle mix). With some training, he quickly became the light of our house and is truly the sixth member. He's the first thing kids look for when they awake each morning (if he’s not already on their bed!), and when they arrive home from school. He's a joy chasing ice cubes and squirrels in the backyard, floating in the pool, and on hikes … he has really become beloved by our extended family too, from grandparents to toddler cousins.

Importantly, Max has helped our children learn responsibility, compassion, and how to take care of someone else.

A family pet has made our family feel complete and we recommend considering the pet that’s right for you if you don't already have one.
