Free First Sunday at the Bob Bullock Museum

January 22, 2018 | by Heather | 1 Minute Read

Our family has lived in Austin for almost 12 years and we have not begun to take advantage of all our city has to offer.

Recently we had family in from California so I decided to find some fun touristy things to do. We did dinner at Salt Lick on Saturday night and I directed them to stay at the Driskill, both of which are so Austin and they loved.

As for Sunday I was a little bit at a loss. After a quick search I found that HEB hosts family events at the Bob Bullock Museum on the first Sunday of every month. Starting at noon on the the museum opens with free admission. Since we were out and about before noon we decided to tour the capitol before heading to the museum. Bonus- the parking meters on Congress between the capitol and the Bob Bullock are free on Sundays. Once we finished touring the capitol we walked over to the museum. Whataburger was there passing out free cookies and pies, yummy! And we toured the exhibits. We were there on a day that they were kicking off Bernstein 100 Austin, a celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday, which will culminate in a celebration at the Long Center in June 2018. We were treated to performances by the ZACH Theater’s Pre-Professional Company & Alumni performing selections from West Side Story with an introduction by Mayor Steve Adler.

I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more fun family activities within Austin including the new, beautiful Central Library.
