Going Back to Work
Bear with me. My thoughts are going to be all over the place.
Whoa! I just finished up my first week at a new startup. It was more stressful than I thought juggling my family and work. It probably didn’t help that we had family visiting the same week. All in all, it was a success, but a lesson in planning ahead.
Mind you, I am going back to work after 11 years. I’ve never had to juggle a job and 3 kids but I am up for the challenge.
Even though the client meetings were stressful and intimidating since I’m still getting used to the platform, it was very exciting to get back into the work place. The founder of the company (Landon, who is also a very close family friend of ours) was in town for the week. For three days, we stayed busy with client meetings, lunches and meeting with the design group who is handling our logo and website. I never realized how much thought went into a company’s logo!
Matt has been very supportive and took care of all the chauffeuring, airport runs and getting dinner for 3 days. I guess he got a dose of what my life has been for the last couple of years.
Next time Landon is in town, I’m going to have a better plan. Although I don’t normally plan meals for the week, it is a must while he is here. Of course there will be at least one night of take out, but I think I can manage cooking a couple of those nights as well as long as I know what I’m making and have groceries ahead of time. I also need to better prepare the kids that daddy will be charge those few days I’m at meetings.
Although I am still in the adjustment period, I am excited to move forward with this company and try to figure out the balance between work and family. Wish me luck!
