Homemade Birthday Cards

Ever pay attention to how much you pay for greeting cards? Unless you seek out the $1.99 cards, you are paying anywhere from $3.99 up to $5.99! If you splurge and buy the singing ones, those can run up to $10. CRAZY!

As you know, we have 3 kids and they are normally invited to 4-5 birthday parties a year. When they were younger, they were probably invited to at least once a month! You can do the math.. but that adds up to a lot of money on top of the birthday gift itself!

About 4 or 5 years ago, I decided I wasn’t going to buy them any more and the kids were going to start making them. They moaned and groaned in the beginning, but once they really got started, they would make beautiful, thoughtful cards. When they were younger, they would draw stick figures of them and the receiver of the card plus a small greeting like Happy Birthday or Happy Mother’s Day. Now, that they are older, they write very sweet, funny messages. My daughter, who is a craft master, makes very intricate cards with popups and origami. I’m impressed.

And don’t think they can only make birthday cards. They make Mother’s Day cards, Thank you notes and Christmas cards. To make them a little more fancy, you can order a big box of white, 9”x6” envelopes from Amazon for a few dollars. They can also decorate the envelope.

Kids have fun making them and mom saves a lot of money. You’ll wonder why you didn’t think of this years ago!

Happy card making!
