Is Kids Baseball More Stressful on Kids or Parents?

September 24, 2018 | by Anne | 1 Minute Read

Now that sports are year round events, parents (and kids) are playing games in all seasons.  Our son plays coach pitch baseball and we are in the midst of the Fall season.  Three games into a season, our son’s team is 3-0 which is terrific and the boys are excited.  But here is the problem.  The team has scored 50 runs and given up 47.  That’s right, the team has won 3 games by 1 run each and they are not low scoring affairs.  18-17, 17-16 and 15-14.

So how do the parents handle it?  Remember it is just a game.  People handle it in all different ways.  There are parents that sit away from others.  Some parents stand a long way from the field.  Some pace.  Others wring whatever is in their hand.

Since this is coach pitch, the coach pitching just deals with it.

What about the kids?  As best I can tell they feel zero pressure.  They are still out there to play.  So it seems we, the parents, are the ones that put the pressure on the kids.  Let’s all remember that at this age (7 and 8) it is still for fun.  Everyone likes to win (and the boys sure do), but it is still about having fun and learning baseball.
