My Intro to Lacrosse

I asked my son to share his experience thus far with the sport of Lacrosse…

So, I first had an idea to try the sport of baseball, which I played for about 3 or 4 years. Then I heard that there was this sport called lacrosse. And I thought "hey, why not give it a try?" But when I first started I never ever wanted to play this sport AGAIN!! Why? Because, I had no idea we had to wear full pads in 95 degree heat! But I still did it ... because all friends were doing it with me.

When I started to figure out this sport, I practiced and practiced until I got much better. And as I played by the time I was in 3rd grade, almost all my friends had tried it. As I played with my old friends, I also got the chance to play with new friends that will go to another middle school. All the friends I play with now I won't play with next year, but I will play with them again in high school.

As some of you may not know much about lacrosse, it's pretty simple. First there's Defense - they stay on one side of the field, basically trying to stop the other team from scoring. Then there's Midfield - they are allowed to go on both sides of the field allowing them to play Defense and Offense. Then there's Attack which I play, on the other side of the field from our own defense, and we score trying to get past the defense. Last there's the Goalie, who stays inside the net and blocks shots the entire game.

My hope is to play for middle school and then high school, then if possible, go to a great university to play lacrosse and get a good education. Now professional lacrosse: I don't exactly want to do that because I wouldn't say that they get paid well but they love the sport and they are amazing athletes and that is why they play the game, because of their passion for the sport.
