New Years Eve with Kids

December 26, 2017 | by Rajal | 1 Minute Read

Happy New Year! It’s New Years Eve and our friends from Maine and San Francisco are in town for their annual trip. We always get together the week in between Christmas and New Years. We spend a week together eating, drinking and laughing until we have tears in our eyes.

Although we are always together on NYE, we’ve always chosen to stay home and not fight the crowds and Uber waits. Not to mention, it’s VERY difficult finding a sitter. College kids like to celebrate with their friends. Go figure.

As for the day’s festivities, we start out with a big breakfast including a few bloody marys and mimosas. Later, we will start prepping for dinner. Every year, we come up with a theme. Some of our past themes were Banh Mi, Italian and Indian.

This year we’ve chosen to do a mix of new and ‘Best of’. Our menu includes Baccolo (salted cod croquettes), homemade mozzarella sticks, fried calamari, sticky asian chicken wings, fennel salad, arugula chicken and Hershey Kiss cookies. To step up our game, we came up with pairings for each course. We are doing a mix of cocktails, wine and bubbles. My daughter always creates a menu for us to keep as a memory.

After dinner, we play games. Our favorite one is Salad Bowl. It’s sort of like charades, but you do 3 rounds with the same words. The first round, you are able to describe your word with as many words as you want. The second round you can only describe your word with 3 words. And the third round, you can only act it out. SO. MUCH. FUN!

Have a fabulous New Years and hope it’s full of love and laughter!
