Plan Your Summer Escape

Want to escape the heat of Austin summers? I've got a great itinerary for you. I've been working on our " Great Austin Escape" for the last month or so and it's finally coming together. If you're like me, once May hits, you're thinking, how am I going to survive the summer? Answer: Get out of town!

We've always dreamed of leaving the summer for 6-10 weeks and have never been able to make it happen. This is the year! We have planned a 7 week vacation in New England. We will fly to Boston as soon as our kids finish summer swim league. After spending a week in Boston, we will rent a car and drive up and down the East Coast visiting family and friends along the way. There is so much beauty and history to explore in that part of the US. And hopefully, we'll get some cool weather along the way!

Here is our itinerary:

  • Boston, MA - 7 nights
  • Thousand Islands, CA - 5 nights
  • Watertown, NY - day
  • Lake Placid, NY - 2 nights
  • Stowe, VT - 4 nights
  • Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket - 7 nights
  • Manchester, NH - 3 nights
  • Camden/Rockland, ME - 3 nights
  • Portland, ME - 11 nights
  • Newport, RI - 4 nights
  • New York, NY - 5 nights

Even though I've explored many of these cities myself or with Matt (the hubs), there are many places on this trip that will be a new experience for me like Lake Placid, VT, NH & RI. I'm very excited to be able to show my children Boston, one of my favorite cities. I hope they will fall in love with the history and beauty of the city.

The catalyst for this "Escape from Austin" trip finally coming together was to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday along with 2 of our closest friends' birthdays. We knew we wanted to spend it together in New England and some how this 7 week trip evolved from that single thought. The next step was to coordinate the stops where we will stay with friends. Once these stops were locked in, we were able to buy plane tickets while the prices were still low. The only remaining advanced planning was locking in VRBO reservations for the stops in between friends' houses.

More to come on this subject for sure, but after spending a month planning this trip I need a break!
