Rafting with Kids in Colorado
First off, I love whitewater rafting. We have a 4 and 7 year old. Is it safe? Can they raft? Will they have fun? Will they be scared? Those were all questions we asked. The answer is rafting was a blast for them. We were staying in Breckenridge and were looking for a calm route, but with a few rapids. We did a KODI Rafting trip based out of Breck or Frisco. But, we had to drive about an hour and fifteen minutes to the put in spot or more accurately, the rallying point to get on the bus to the put in spot.
We rafted on the Colorado River (yes, the one that eventually goes through the Grand Canyon) and it was fabulous. We had plenty of calm, but moving, water. Then we had some class 1 and class 2 rapids. Four year olds are not ready for class 3+; however, our 4 year old wanted more.
The guides were fabulous. In fact, I spent 15 minutes as the “captain”. Note, it is much harder than it looks, but I got the hang of it and it was awesome. I’ve never done that and I think the other family on our raft were a little skeptical. And to top off our trip, we saw a bald eagle and the guide took us close enough (but not too close) to get a good look at him.
I could not recommend KODI Rafting more and next time we are in Colorado we will do another rafting trip, but hopefully with a little additional more challenging rapids.
