Summer Fun

As it gets closer to the end of the school year, summer is all anyone can think about. But when it is finally here, it can get kind of boring. Sitting at home only keeps you occupied for so long, so here are 10 things you can do in the summer as a family.

  1. Go bowling - This is a really easy way to get out of the house for a few hours and do something together as a family. There are bowling alleys everywhere and a lot of them have cool deals in the summer for kids. At the bowling alley we go to, each kid gets one free game a day.
  2. Go to the pool - This is a great and cheap way to get out of the house, have fun with your family, and cool off during the hot summer. It is also a really fun thing to do with friends.
  3. Go on an ice cream crawl - My family has been doing this every year for the past couple summers, every day during the last week of summer we get ice cream from a different ice cream place around town. This is a great thing to do if you have a boring week and it could be a fun thing to do while you are on vacation.
  4. Make cupcakes - Baking is a really fun thing you can do as a family without even leaving your house. Cupcake decorating is also a great way for kids to do something creative and end up with something delicious to eat.
  5. Lemonade stand or bake sale - This is a great way to spend a day. You can spend the morning making your goodies and then set up a table at the corner of your street or at a local park and start selling. It is a great way to spend some time outside and for kids to make a little bit of money.
  6. Go to the movies - During the summer lots of family friendly movies come out and they are a great way to spend a couple of hours on a hot summer afternoon. Or you can go to a movie theater with a full menu and have dinner at the movies.
  7. DIY ice cream - Making ice cream is a really fun way to spend the day, it is really cool to see how a bag of milk and sugar can turn into ice cream from simply shaking it in a bag of ice for a while. It can be a real workout but you do get some delicious ice cream or of it.
  8. Movie Marathon - If you just want to have a lazy day at home movie marathons can be a really great thing to do. You could do a star wars marathon, the family’s favorite Disney movies, throwback movies, or a marathon or a family favorite tv show like Scooby-Doo.
  9. Water balloon/water gun fight - This is a really great activity for kids to do with their friends and neighbors if they need to cool off for a bit. They may get a little dirty but it is really fun and a good substitution for a pool day if the parents have work to do or don’t want to have to leave the house.
  10. School supplies shopping - everyone has to do it at some point so why not make it an adventure. Take the whole family to pick out their favorite notebooks and pencils or turn it into a race by giving each kid a couple of things on the list and see who can get everything the fastest.

I hope that gave you a few ideas of fun things to do over the summer so that you aren’t stuck at home doing nothing for three months.
