Summer Time - Explore Your Local Beaches!
Yes, summer is fun and great, but it is also too long and expensive. This year, we wanted to explore some new activities with the kids, so we decided to find some beaches in the Austin area. Apparently there are some wonderful river and lakefront beaches in Austin and some of them are even free!

- Secret Beach (400 Grove Blvd. Austin): No swimming, off-leash dogs allowed.
- Emma Long Park (1706 City Park Rd. Austin): Car entry fee of $5 weekdays and $10 weekends and holidays. Fun for a whole day.
- West Lake Beach (2509 Westlake Dr., Austin): Admission $8 adults $5 children (11 and younger). This is a privately owned park so it’s best to call ahead to make sure they are open. 512-327-9004.
- Bob Wentz Park at Windy Point (7144 Comanche Trail): On Lake Travis, there’s a sandy peninsula called The Point. Volleyball courts, walking path, boat dock, and pavilion. Admission is $10 per car, open 8am til dusk.
- McKinney Falls State Park (5808 McKinney Falls Pkwy. Austin): Admission is $6 per person (12 and under are free). Small pebble beaches near Upper and Lower Falls. Fun day of swimming.
- Lake Pflugerville (18216 Weiss Ln. Pflugerville): Fun lake with swimming, fishing, jogging, canoes, kayaks and beach areas.
- Russell Park beach at Lake Georgetown (2101 CR 262): Georgetown swimming beach, boating, fishing, and 26 mile San Gabriel River Trail.
- Blue Hole (entrance is at W. 2nd St. & Rock St. in Georgetown): Swimming hole with rocky banks.
- Hamilton Pool Reserve (24300 Hamilton Pool Rd, Dripping Springs): Small pebble beach. Reservations might be required. About $26 per car for morning or afternoon time slot.
- Pedernales Falls State Park (2585 Park Rd. 6026. Johnson City): Fun swimming and walking areas. $6 per person (12 and under are free).
- Sandy Creek Park (9500 Lime Creek Rd. Leander): On Lake Travis. Great for swimming, nature walks, boating and fishing. $10 per car.
- Pace Bend Park (2011 Pace Bend Rd. N. Spicewood): On Lake Travis, about 30 miles west of Austin. Shallow beaches on the north and east sides of the park. $10 per car.
