Three TV Shows None of My Friends are Watching

July 11, 2016 | by Heather | 2 Minute Read

There are many TV shows that my girlfriends and I can go on and on about. We feel like these characters are our friends and part of our squad. We have strong opinions on their relationships, flaws, and strengths. However I am hooked on 3 shows they are not watching and I think this needs to change. I need someone to recap with, friends!

YOUNGER on TVLAND

This show is created by the one of the geniuses behind BEVERLY HILLS 90210 and MELROSE PLACE, Darren Starr. It stars Tony Award winning actress Sutton Foster and the adorable Hilary Duff. Foster is the lead character, Eliza Miller, a divorced 40 year old mom that has spent the past 18 years as a suburban mom and wife in Connecticut and out of the publishing industry where she started her career. As her life falls apart she must get back to work but is having trouble getting hired do to her age and lack of experience. She remedies this by playing it as a fresh faced 26 year old at the beginning of her career. Duff is Kelsey Miller, her work BFF and fellow millennial. The typical situations arise: she has to hide her age from her 40 year old boss, the obligatory makeover, the hot young boyfriend, etc. But the thing that I like about this show is that all the women, even the semi-uptight boss, are really trying to help each out rather than scheme against each other. It would be such a cop out to have Eliza and Kelsey backstab each other trying to get ahead. Instead they are rooting for each other over cocktails.

ODD MOM OUT on Bravo

Bravo has more than just Real Housewives, there are a couple really great scripted series one of which is ODD MOM OUT. Jill Kargman stars as Jill Webber, of Brooklyn girl at heart that has married a great guy that happens to come from an Upper East Side family. This show is so whole inappropriate that I watch only when the kids are not home or are snoring in their beds, but I laugh out loud often at the smart and witty dialogue. I love this show.

GIRLFRIENDS’ GUIDE TO DIVORCE also on Bravo

This is the other Bravo scripted series I am in love with. It stars Lisa Edelstein as Abby McCarthy, a character loosely based on Vicki Iovine who is the ex-wife of music mega-producer Jimmy Iovine and author of the “Girlfriends’ Guide to Pregnancy” and others in the series. This show deals with a group of women managing careers, divorce, and parenthood. However they are doing this in the wealthy neighborhoods of LA, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills, so while the problems are generally relatable, my friends to not have fabulous jobs that will foot the bill for a giant party attended by celebrities and paparazzi just because I’m feeling a little down in the dumps.

Start watching friends, so we can rehash together!
