Victoria Falls and Sabi Sands

August 20, 2018 | by Tanima | 2 Minute Read

If you read my previous blog about our trip to South Africa, then you’ll want to read about part 2. After enjoying 5 days in Cape Town, our family will fly to Sabi Sands and then on to Victoria Falls. Sabi Sands is a private game reserve situated in the south western section of the Kruger National Park. With many accommodations to choose from, our family decided on Ulusaba. After 4 days at the safari lodge, we will leave for Victoria Falls. One of the largest waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls is in southern Africa on the Zambezi River on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. This half of our trip is 8 days long. Here is our itinerary:

Day 7

  • Fly to our safari via Johannesburg. Luckily, we land around 1PM and have time for lunch
  • Evening Safari
  • Dinner

Day 8 and Day 9 — Safari schedule.

Each safari is about 3 hours long with a tracker and a guide. They do a really good job of food (and drink) before, after, and during the safaris. We simply can’t wait!

  • Morning Safari (5:30a)
  • Breakfast (9a)
  • Lunch (1:30p)
  • Afternoon tea (4:30p)
  • Evening Safari (5p)
  • Dinner (8p)

Day 10

  • Morning Safari (yes, this is 5:30 am)
  • Quick breakfast
  • Leave Lodge and Fly to Victoria Falls. Getting from Sabi to Vic Falls is harder than it looks, but we were able to make it work out that we get in during daylight hours and didn’t have to overnight anywhere.
  • Water taxi to our hotel, and check out the falls in the evening.

Day 11 — Victoria Falls

  • Segway Tour to the gorge
  • Lunch - Picnic Lunch through our Hotel
  • Tour the Falls and bridge
  • Dinner - Dinner cruise on the Zambezi

Day 12 — Victoria Falls

  • Horseback Riding
  • Lunch - back at the Hotel
  • Fishing excursion
  • Back to the falls if we want, or just some good downtime.
  • Dinner – Traditional Boma Dinner and Show (like a luau, but different).

Day 13 Leave Victoria Falls and Fly to Johannesburg

  • Constitution Hill
  • Nelson Mandela Square
  • There are apparently some awesome dinner choices, like Bukhara

Day 14 (Last day of our trip)

  • Apartheid Museum
  • Vilakazi Street
  • Visit Fresh Earth Food Store
  • Gandhi House in Saweto
  • Urbanologi for lunch - microbrewery and lunch place
  • Dinner at any restaurant in the square/mall area
  • Finish our trip with Drinks at Westcliff (Four Seasons), amazing grounds.

I hope you enjoyed my itinerary for South Africa, Sabi Sands, Zambia and Johannesburg!
